Terms of Service

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure, for enabling two-factor authentication if you want it, and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use. Keep your email address current — it is how we send password resets and important service notices.

Your documents and information are yours. We do not claim ownership of them. You grant us only the limited license needed to run the Service for you — to store, encrypt, back up, process (including OCR for search), display, and transmit your content so we can provide the features you use, including sharing content with the people and family members you choose. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content already shared with others and residual copies in backups that rotate out over time.

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Store or share content you do not have the right to store or share.
• Upload malware or malicious content. Uploads are scanned, and infected files are quarantined automatically.
• Violate any law, infringe others’ rights, or store content that is unlawful.
• Attempt to breach, probe, overload, or circumvent the security or access controls of the Service, or access another family’s data.
• Resell or provide the Service to third parties except through its own sharing features.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, and where the law requires it, cooperate with legal authorities.

A family owner or admin can invite members, set roles, and manage the family, including removing members and deleting the family. Members can see documents according to each document’s visibility and their role. When you share documents outside your family, you are responsible for choosing the right recipients and documents; recipients must verify control of their email before viewing, and you can revoke a share at any time. Do not share documents you are not authorized to share.

During the current pilot, ManagedFamily may be offered free of charge. If and when paid plans are enabled, the plan you select, its price, storage limits, and billing terms will be presented to you before you are charged, and paid features are billed through our payments provider. We may change plans and pricing on reasonable notice; changes will not apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.

These limits are important, so we state them plainly:

• Not an emergency service. The check-in feature notifies the watchers you designate if someone misses a check-in. It does not contact 911, emergency responders, or any medical-alert service, and must not be relied on as one.
• Not legal, medical, tax, or financial advice. Storing a will, a directive, or a medical record in ManagedFamily does not make it valid, filed, or a substitute for professional advice or an official record.
• Not your only copy. ManagedFamily is a convenient, secured place to keep documents — not a legal system of record. For irreplaceable originals, keep the original where it legally belongs and use our export feature to keep your own backup.

We work to keep the Service available and secure, but we may modify, suspend, or discontinue features, and maintenance or outages can occur. If we discontinue the Service, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost — which is exactly why we give you an export feature and encourage you to use it.

You use the Service at your own risk. ManagedFamily is a place to store copies of documents. It is not a safe-deposit box, an escrow agent, a records custodian of legal record, or a substitute for the originals — and it is not legal, financial, medical, or tax advice. Keep the originals of anything that matters, and keep your own copy of anything you could not stand to lose. You are responsible for deciding what to upload, for who you share it with, and for keeping your own independent backup.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ManagedFamily and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or one hundred US dollars ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

You agree to indemnify and hold ManagedFamily harmless from claims arising out of content you store or share, or your violation of these Terms or of applicable law.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access for a material or repeated violation of these Terms, or as required by law. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; the sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, and indemnification) will survive.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Michigan will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If we make a material change to these Terms, we will update the version and effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. The version shown is the version recorded against your account at sign-up, so you can tell which text you agreed to.
